3 Cookie Upgrades You Need to Try

I am a big cookie fan, especially the classic chocolate chip. I’ll have them warm, cool, chewy, or snappy. However, there are a few steps to elevating your go-to recipe that are sure to impress.

Tip No. 1: Brown your butter

This step can be finicky, but only because you’ll need quite a bit of patience and a watchful eye. Stir the butter quantity from your recipe over medium heat in a saucepan until it has not only foamed, but turned a golden brown. Signs that it’s ready are a toffee scent and grainy sediment on the bottom of the pan. The key to this step is cooling the butter all the way before continuing on with your recipe.

Tip No. 2: Chocolate choice

Depending on your taste, the type of chocolate you choose can make or break your cookies. I personally prefer dark, but many people prefer a semi-sweet option. Now, not only does the type of chocolate matter, but also how the chocolate distributes and melts throughout each cookie. For this reason, I chop my chocolate chips into thick chunks and shards for the best cookie to chocolate ratio.

Tip No. 3: Adding salty to sweet

This might be a controversial opinion, but topping your cookies with a sprinkle of sea salt is the ultimate finish for most decadent desserts. I encourage you all to try it at least once.
