Strawberry Summertime Galette

Entertaining on a budget? Have little time to prep for a party? This seasonal treat is perfect for the smallest and largest of gatherings. Not only does this recipe utilize my favorite kitchen hack… frozen puff pastry, but it also combines one of my favorite flavor pairings. Strawberries, basil, and balsamic! Ingredients

For the filling (serves 4)

Half sheet of frozen puff pastry

Heaping cup of strawberries (sliced or quartered)

Half tablespoon of granulated sugar

Half tablespoon of corn starch

Teaspoon of lime zest

Squeeze of lime juice

Two teaspoons balsamic glaze

For the pastry

Large egg whisked together with water

Granulated or sanding sugar

Extra

Few leaves of fresh basil

How to Make It

Thaw frozen, puff pastry dough for 30 minutes, then cut sheet in half with a knife. (See note *)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Roll dough out on flat surface, and transfer onto a baking sheet.

In a small mixing bowl, stir together the filling ingredients.

Place into the center of puff pastry square leaving space on the sides to fold the dough over.

Fold the dough over the strawberries, pressing the dough together so that it holds the filling inside during baking.

Brush egg and water mixture (egg wash) over the dough with a pastry brush. Then, sprinkle granulated or sanding sugar over the dough.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until dough becomes golden brown in color.

Finish with a few leaves of fresh basil, and enjoy!

* Note: If making for a larger party, roll out full sheet of puff pastry dough, and double the filling ingredients. Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Serves 8 to 10.
